Charlottesville Opera 2022 Summer Auditions

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Charlottesville Opera’s 2022 summer festival season!  We will be producing Franz Léhar’s “The Merry Widow” (sung in English) and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.”

Both productions will feature a small adult chorus auditioned from the Charlottesville region, and "The Sound of Music" will feature children's roles. Information for how to audition can be found at the pages below:​

Auditions will be held primarily via submitted video.

The deadline for videos is Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 5:00PM EST.

There will be a limited number of live callback auditions on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022 at First United Methodist Church and over Zoom.  These will be by invitation only - Callback notifications will be sent by Feb. 17 at 5:00PM.

The Productions
 
“The Sound of Music,” directed by Cara Consilvio and conducted by Michael Slon (Director of Choral Music, UVA).
 
Rehearsal period: June 20-July 2, 2022 (First United Methodist Church, 226 E. High St.)
Tech week: July 3-6, 2022 (The Paramount Theater, 215 E. Main St.)
Performances: July 7-10, 2022 (The Paramount Theater, 215 E. Main St.)
 
“The Merry Widow,” directed by Stephanie Havey and conducted by Larry Loh
 
Rehearsal period: July 5-July 17, 2022 (First United Methodist Church, 226 E. High St)
Tech week: July 17-21, 2022 (The Paramount Theater, 215 E. Main St.)
Performances: July 22 and 24, 2022 (The Paramount Theater, 215 E. Main St.)
 
Singers cast in the adult chorus agree to be available for all dates, especially tech week and performances.  There will be limited flexibility with the remaining rehearsal dates.  A full rehearsal schedule will be made available at the beginning of June.
 
All chorus members and child performers will be paid an honorarium.

*All performers in all Charlottesville Opera productions must provide documentation of vaccination and booster for COVID 19, completed a minimum of two weeks prior to the rehearsal period.
