Charlottesville Opera Press Release

Dear Friends of Charlottesville Opera,
Because you are one of our closest supporters, we’re excited to let you know that we've initiated an organizational restructuring to establish a General Director model. This was our leadership model when we first originated on Ash Lawn mountain. It was in place during our greatest period of growth and transformation and resulted in producing the artistic quality you’ve come to expect.  We have engaged a leading recruiter and are currently conducting a nationwide search for our next General Director.
In addition, the Opera is delighted to announce a $50,000 matching gift.  Every new gift to the Opera will be matched dollar-for-dollar through November 1, 2018. This matching campaign will help maintain the Opera’s tradition of high quality – yet affordable – music and drama for the Charlottesville community.  In the words of one of our supporters “Having our own opera company here in Charlottesville is a true gift to our citizens.” Charlottesville Opera is committed to enriching the cultural vitality and quality of life in Virginia.
We also want to announce Kevin O'Halloran's departure as Executive Director.  During his four years with the Opera, Kevin helped create eleven main stage productions as well as an evening with Jay Hunter Morris, a Broadway Revue, and dozens of events for our donors and friends.  Additionally, during Kevin’s tenure, Charlottesville Opera celebrated its fortieth season and rebranded, taking on its new name. The Opera would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Kevin for his years of service with the Opera.
We look forward to letting you know about our new General Director and the exciting season we’re planning for 2019!  Many of the talented musicians and artists responsible for our past success will return in 2019. We are very excited about this transition and the future of Charlottesville Opera. If you have any questions, please call me at 434.293.4500 or send me an email at
The growth and success of Charlottesville Opera would not be possible without your support and commitment. We very much appreciate you being a part of the Charlottesville Opera family.

Sue Ann Sarpy, Ph.D.
