Technical Director/Head Carpenter Seasonal Position: June 1, 2026 - July 19, 2026 Compensation: $8,000–$10,000, dependent on experience
Charlottesville Opera is seeking a skilled and hands-on Technical Director / Head Carpenter for our 2026 summer season. This role will serve as the primary scenic builder for our mainstage productions, while also overseeing the execution and installation of all scenic elements.
Administrative Intern Seasonal Position: June 5, 2026 - July 21,2026 Compensation: $2,500–$3,000 (based on experience) Location: Charlottesville, VA (in-person)
Charlottesville Opera seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Administrative Intern to support the company’s daily operations during the summer season. This position offers a well-rounded, hands-on experience in arts administration, providing exposure to marketing, patron services, event coordination, and general organizational management. The Administrative Intern will work closely with experienced arts administrators and play a key role in supporting both office operations and public-facing activities.
Costume Intern Seasonal Position: June 5, 2026 - July 21,2026 Compensation: $2,500–$3,000 (based on experience) Location: Charlottesville, VA (in-person)
Charlottesville Opera seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Costume Intern to join our production team for the summer season. This is an immersive, hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional opera environment while working closely with an experienced costume designer, assistant, and production staff. The Costume Intern will play an integral role in supporting costume preparation, fittings, and maintenance throughout rehearsals and performances.

Charlottesville Opera seeks an organized and proactive Production Intern with an interest in stage management to join our summer season. This position provides hands-on experience supporting the stage management team in both rehearsal and performance settings, offering valuable insight into the coordination and execution of professional opera productions. The intern will work closely with an experienced Stage Manager, assisting in maintaining an efficient, welcoming, and well-run rehearsal environment, with responsibilities transitioning to backstage support once performances move into the theater.

Charlottesville Opera seeks a reliable and motivated Technical Theater Intern to join our technical team for the summer season. This position offers dynamic, hands-on experience in a professional opera environment, working alongside the Technical Director, Production Manager, and other skilled artisans and crew. The Technical Theater Intern will support multiple aspects of production, gaining exposure to scenic construction, props, backstage operations, and the execution of live performances.
